RW-Idrofoglia Racing GP leaves San Marino Grand Prix without points
Barry Baltus and Zonta van den Goorbergh haven’t scored points in the Moto2 race at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli on Sunday afternoon. The Belgian rider crossed the finish line in 18th place while the Dutchman finished the race in 23rd. In two weeks’ time, the RW-Idrofoglia Racing GP team will return to the Italian circuit for another Grand Prix.
Starting from nineteenth and twentieth on the grid, Zonta van den Goorbergh and Barry Baltus had the prospect of points on Sunday. The Dutchman managed to move up to eighteenth position immediately after the start but then faced a problem that prevented him from continuing this advance. In the end, Van den Goorbergh crossed the finish line in 23rd position which meant he could not add any points to his tally.
Baltus lost two positions in the opening lap but then managed to get back towards the front. The Belgian rider had to fight hard and eventually crossed the line in 18th place. This meant that RW-Idrofoglia Racing GP went home empty-handed.
Barry Baltus – P18: “This wasn’t the race I expected. I missed a bit of pace in the beginning which improved as went on. The team did a great job this weekend but unfortunately, we were just missing something today. We will be back at this track in two weeks’ time and try to improve our performance.”
Zonta van den Goorbergh – P23: “In the sighting lap the feeling was very good but unfortunately it was not lasting very long. The opening lap was good with some overtakes but from the third lap onwards, it went downhill. The engine got too hot which caused certain things to stop working. We will have to find out what exactly the problem was but it does mean we were unable to score here. In a fortnight’ time we will try our hardest again.”
Jarno Janssen – RW-Idrofoglia Racing GP team manager: “This Sunday did not turn out as we had hoped. Neither rider was able to score any points, even though Barry came pretty close. We lacked speed, although it has to be said that we faced some technical problems on Zonta’s side. As a team we obviously feel bad about that, but something like that can happen in a mechanical sport. As a result, he was also not in a position to put up a fight and that is a huge shame. In two weeks’ time we have to start again and make sure we have everything better in place, so that we are strong right from the first free practice like we were yesterday.”
The next Grand Prix will be held on the weekend of 20 to 22 September, again at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli.
