First of two Grands Prix at Misano next up for RW-Idrofoglia Racing GP

This weekend, the San Marino Grand Prix will be held at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli. Due to a calendar change, two Grands Prix will take place at the Italian venue this year, the first of which is this weekend. After Barry Baltus and Zonta van den Goorbergh both managed to score points at Motorland Aragon last weekend, the aim for RW-Idrofoglia Racing GP will be to build on that in Misano.

Fresh from a points score at Motorland Aragón, Barry Baltus, Zonta van den Goorbergh and the RW-Idrofoglia Racing GP team will travel on to the Italian east coast for the thirteenth Grand Prix of 2024. The 4.23-kilometre Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli has ten right turns and six left turns and has been back on the MotoGP calendar in its current configuration since 2007.

After a thirteenth-place finish by Baltus and a fourteenth-place finish by Van den Goorbergh in Aragon, the aim will be to maintain and further improve that form this weekend. On the Italian circuit, where especially the Italian riders have put in a lot of miles, that will by no means be an easy challenge.

Barry Baltus: “After getting back in the points last weekend, it’s good to be going to Misano. It’s a track that I like and I’m looking forward to race there again. Last weekend was positive for us and it looks like we found a good direction again, so I feel ready to race again.”

Zonta van den Goorbergh: “It was still a somewhat difficult weekend in Aragon where we didn’t get the maximum result. At certain key moments we let things down which left me with a bad feeling. However, we don’t have time to dwell on that for too long as we move on to Misano, a circuit that a lot of riders know very well. It’s not easy to make a difference there but we will definitely do our best again. The goal is to compete again for the positions where we should be.”

Jarno Janssen – RW-Idrofoglia Racing GP team manager: “After a good Sunday in Aragon, where we finally had both riders in the points again, we are looking forward to the first of two Grand Prix weekends in Misano. It is still special to race at the same circuit twice, we had that a few years ago during the Covid era. It is certainly not an easy circuit and many riders have a lot of experience there. It certainly didn’t always go easy last weekend but it ended on a positive note, now we need to see that we continue that line this weekend. Let’s make sure we keep this up and take that positive feeling to Misano.”

The race weekend at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli starts with free practice on Friday morning after which the first official practice session will be held in the afternoon. Then the second official practice session will take place on Saturday morning after which it will be clear which riders will have to take part in Q1 or Q2. Qualifying starts at 13:45 on Saturday afternoon, with the 22-lap race starting at 12:15 on Sunday afternoon.
