Fieten Olie Racing GP travels to spectacular Spielberg for tenth Grand Prix of 2023
This weekend the tenth Grand Prix of 2023 will be held at the Red Bull Ring in Austria. Located in the hills of Styria, it is one of the most spectacular venues on the Grand Prix calendar where Fieten Olie Racing GP with Barry Baltus and Zonta van den Goorbergh will be looking to put on a good show again.
After an exciting weekend at Silverstone for the Dutch Grand Prix team, where Zonta van den Goorbergh was on the front row of the grid and Barry Baltus achieved his best result so far with sixth place, a one-day test was completed on Monday. During this day both riders managed to find improvements compared to the race weekend so the target is to continue this positive trend in Austria.
The 4.3-kilometer Red Bull Ring has a total of eleven corners, eight of which are right turns and three are left turns. The layout of the circuit does not look very special on paper but because of the large elevation differences it is a real challenge for rider and machine.
Barry Baltus: “We are ready to fight again in Austria after a good weekend in Silverstone. I am looking forward to race there again after the result in England, also last year we had a good race in Austria with a twelfth place. I like the track but we will need to see how things pan out, we found some positive things during the test on Monday after Silverstone so let’s see if they will work in Austria as well.”
Zonta van den Goorbergh: “We are already in Austria for the next Grand Prix after a difficult weekend in Silverstone. Of course it was nice what we showed there on Saturday in the rain but in dry conditions, especially in the race, it was not good. Fortunately we were able to test on Monday and during that day I was no less than 1.7 seconds faster than my best lap in the race, also at the end of the second session I was less than 0.8 seconds off the fastest rider. That was a big improvement and we will go into this weekend with that good feeling.
Jarno Janssen – Fieten Olie Racing GP team manager: “We are ready for the tenth Grand Prix of the season in Austria. Besides being a beautiful circuit, the surroundings are of course absolutely stunning. On the Red Bull Ring it mainly comes down to braking late and hard, despite it not being a very difficult circuit you have to ride in a flowing way in the last two sectors. The weather conditions look reasonably stable but adverse weather is never far away between the mountains. Hopefully we can continue the line we started in Silverstone with nice results for both riders over the weekend with the main objective being to get results in the race.”
The race weekend in Spielberg begins with two practice sessions on Friday and one practice session on Saturday morning, followed by qualifying Saturday afternoon at 13:45 p.m. The 23-lap race will start Sunday afternoon at 12:15 p.m.
