Fieten Olie Racing GP continues hopeful collaboration with Baltus and Van den Goorbergh
The RW Racing GP team will compete in the Moto2 class of the FIM MotoGP World Championship under the name Fieten Olie Racing GP, starting in 2023. The company from Drenthe has been a partner of the sole Dutch Grand Prix team since 2017 and has extended the partnership by becoming title sponsor starting this season.
With Barry Baltus and Zonta van den Goorbergh as riders, the team is opting for continuity. The eighteen-year-old Belgian has been riding for the team since 2021 and showed last season with top-ten results in both qualifying and races that he is able to match himself with the fastest riders.
Seventeen-year-old Van den Goorbergh had an impressive debut season in 2022 with some participations in Q2 early on in the season session. Consequently, the pre-season expectations were soon adjusted and the Dutchman was close to the points several times.
Fieten Olie Racing GP will have the latest equipment from Kalex in 2023 with which the two young riders are sure to have an equal battle with the extremely strong competition in the Moto2 class. With 21 races on the calendar – the longest Grand Prix season ever – it will be quite a challenge for the team, but there will be no lack of motivation in 2023.
Barry Baltus: “It will be my third year with the team and I am very happy that we continue to work together. I know everyone and everyone knows me: that makes it easier. We know from each other how we work. This year we will also have the 2023 Kalex, so we have the same equipment as everyone else. I can’t wait to start again in two weeks at Jerez and I hope we can make it a great season.”
Zonta van den Goorbergh: “I’m obviously very much looking forward to the new season. We worked hard during the winter to get ourselves all ready. We hope to bring in some nice results this season, we have ‘up-to-date’ material perfectly prepared by the fantastic team. Last year I learned a lot and I can’t wait to show what we are all capable of!”
Jarno Janssen – Fieten Olie Racing GP team manager: “First of all it is of course fantastic news that today we can present Fieten Olie as our new title sponsor and namesake of the team for 2023. The cooperation with Fieten Olie dates back to the 2017 season and in recent years we have always been able to work together in a pleasant way, which has now resulted in the fact that from this season on we will appear at the start under the name Fieten Olie Racing GP. Our cooperation goes much further than just the Fieten Olie logos on our machines. For some years now, Fieten Olie has also been a very important partner in our fantastic TT event, an event where our partners and their relations can enjoy our beautiful sport from a great location at the TT Circuit Assen.
Then to the sporting part, here too I am looking forward to. Barry is starting his second period within our team, after the past two seasons he will continue to race for our team in 2023 and 2024. With two years of experience and an excellent 2022 season – he managed to finish in the top ten twice – we do see him making a step up this season and the expectation is that he will surprise us a few more times.
Zonta can also look back on a successful first season in the Moto2 class. If we look at where he was a year ago as a sixteen-year-old ‘rookie’, and how he has developed during the season, we can only say that he too has grown as a rider. Of course he has had his share of setbacks, but that is part of the process. He’s had a strong winter season preparing for his second Moto2 season, especially in Spain. Our expectation is also that he will make a step up.
In short, we are in good shape. Currently the guys are working hard to build and prepare our new 2023 Kalex machines for the season. We are facing a new season, one that would not be possible without the support of our sponsors, partners and everyone who passionately works to make it all possible. Thank you for that.”
Richard Fieten – director Fieten Olie: “We are happy to announce that we as Fieten Olie are again involved as a sponsor with the only Dutch Grand Prix team for the 2023 season. Fieten Olie is a fast-growing company with 57 petrol stations throughout the Netherlands. This speed obviously suits a Grand Prix team very well.
The fact that the team, like Fieten Olie, is also located in Drenthe and that the Dutch TT is almost in our backyard completes the picture. All these facets have even led to the fact that we have extended our collaboration for next season and the team will appear at the start under the name Fieten Olie Racing GP. This is something that we, as a company, are very proud of. It also indicates that we are very satisfied with the cooperation so far.
We are looking forward to a great season, culminating of course in the Dutch TT Assen at the end of June, an event where we hope to welcome many of our relations. I wish Zonta, Barry and the team lots of success for the coming season!”
Fieten Olie
Fieten Olie has existed since 1935. Fieten Olie travels with 25 tankers through the Netherlands to deliver fuels and there are now 57 Fieten Olie filling stations. The fuels are delivered to our own filling stations and independent filling stations, but also to transport companies, contracting companies, contractors and agricultural companies: in fact, everywhere where fuel is needed. Customers are located throughout the Netherlands and planning is done from the headquarters in Hollandscheveld. A new 5000m² warehouse has been built for the storage of lubricants and there are still plenty of plans to expand the number of filling stations.
There are 57 Fieten Olie filling stations, including 4 locations with a shop. Businesses can use the Fieten Olie fuel card, which offers many advantages at more than 300 guest locations. These locations can be found throughout the Netherlands.
