Difficult Austrian Grand Prix leaves RW-Idrofoglia Racing GP empty handed

RW-Idrofoglia Racing GP failed to score any points in the Moto2 race at the Red Bull Ring on Sunday afternoon. Zonta van den Goorbergh crossed the line in 18th place after a tricky opening lap while Barry’s race came to an end after only five laps.

With a fifteenth place on the grid for Van den Goorbergh and a 23rd starting positionfor Baltus, the RW-Idrofoglia Racing GP team was hopeful for good results in the Moto2 race at the Red Bull Ring. Especially as both riders had shown their speed several times on Saturday, points certainly seemed to be a possibility.

Van den Goorbergh lost multiple places on the opening lap and then had to come back up from outside the top 20. In the end, the 18-year-old Dutchman crossed the finish line in 18th place and could not take home any points as a result. For Baltus, the race was soon over due to two small but decisive technical problems, leaving the 20-year-old Belgian empty-handed as well.

Zonta van den Goorbergh – P18: “I got the maximum out of it in the race. We worked hard all weekend to be able to be in a good positionbut in the end we were fighting for positions where we don’t belong. I did manage to make a nice overtake on the last lap so we have to take the positives out of it. We have a test tomorrow at the Red Bull Ring so hopefully we can find something that we lacked in the race. After that we go to Motorland Aragón, a circuit I’m really looking forward to. Hopefully we can fight for better positions there.’

Barry Baltus – DNF: “For sure this wasn’t the weekend that I wanted to have. We did make some steps but it wasn’t enough unfortunately. My race ended because of a technical issue which is disappointed but it wasn’t going to be an easy race anyway. Hopefully I will get some more feeling back in tomorrow’s test. We are in a tough moment but after a lot of rainy days, the sun will start shining at some point.”

Jarno Janssen – RW-Idrofoglia Racing GP team manager: “These were not the results we had hoped for this weekend. The race was a follow the leader type race that we just weren’t part of, we weren’t in a position to fight for the points. When you are in a certain position in the Moto2 class, it is very difficult to make any progression to the front. Zonta was riding with riders like Aldeguer and Arenas but nobody was making any progress. In the end, I do think Zonta rode a very good race but that doesn’t bring us anything, so we have to look ahead to the next one.

With Barry, we faced a technical problem very early in the race as a stone got between the caliper and the brake pad, after that a throttle sensor failed. Despite that, we didn’t have the speed with him this weekend either so we can’t be satisfied. We will look forward to the next race.”

RW-Idrofoglia Racing GP returns to action on Monday at the Red Bull Ring for a one-day test. The next Grand Prix will be held at Motorland Aragón in Spain on the weekend of 30 August to 1 September.
